chevy small block (305) rebuild

    fasteddy "302" in 1967...

    Which measured 301.44ci. I round down....


    I believe displacement is determined by Bore Size (4.002) not Piston size - 301.895. Cu In.

    THE Chevy 302 had identical bore and stroke to the Ford 302 which is a bore of 4.00" and a stroke of 3.00". That gives you a displacement of 301.592 Cubic inches ((4/2)^2 X 3.14159 X 3 X 8 ) which is why they call them a 302.

    I don,t want to be pickey, but, My stock Ford 302,s have a bore of 4.002.

    4.000 Pistons would not fit in a 4.000 bore

    I am told it is definately the BORE measurement and not the piston measurement that counts.

    It is the bore that is measured. Both the 302's from Ford and Chevy were rule designed, with the maximum displacement being 302 CID (one of the rules), so they could compete come race day. It didn't matter what bore diameter was, so long as the displacement came in under 302. Sure a 4" piston will fit a 4" bore :rolleyes: , it's called an interference fit, but not very good for controlling compression, heat or oil consumsion.
