Not to get into the reasoning and the long drawn out project, how important is the exact location of a single spreader mast set up on a 48' (above the waterline)?
Another words, if the spreader and lower shroud location was 6" to 12" higher then the original design, would this effect the design and stability of the mast?

    Thanks

    It depends .... .
In selecting the mast section, the length between staying points counts squared (L^2). So even small change in length can make a big difference.
It also depend on actual safety factors of your mast -i.e. how much it is overbuilt.
Ask an advice from a) maker of your mast b) qualified designer (I am qualified enough for this, by the way ;) ).
When asking the designer, you will need to supply him with accurate mast section dimensions, staying geometry, boat displacement and stability data.
