Calculating stay and shroud sizes

    I have an old copy of Skene's Elements of Yacht Design that uses the breaking strength of wire instead of the working strength. The usual advice is to use 20% of the breaking strength of SS wire as a working strength. Is this an error in Skene's? Arthur Edmund's book uses the same concept - shroud loads are based on selecting a breaking strength equivalent to mast compression. :confused:
