    and then when you have determined the thrust required for a given speed, you will be able to determine the net output from the jet.

    Then you consult the jet manufacturers tables to see what horsepower requirements are required for the particular jet model/impellor cut/ size etc that you will satisfy your net requirements and size the engine accordingly

    Hi Anand,
    Many waterjet manufacturers will do all the calculations for you and this is highly recommended if you are not familiar with resistance & propulsion. For example if it is a planing craft that you are building, the jet supplier might only need your boats deadrise angle, center of gravity, beam, desired max speed etc. to calculate your boats resistance over a range of speed. They will then suggest you a suitable waterjet model, impeller and possibly a gearbox.
