    Well fellas, horses for courses.
I have both a 14 and an 18 Hobie, I sail the 18 with the 14 rig and mainsail with the 18 roller jib.
Sure it is not the fastest boat around, it is WAY faster than any 14 Hobie, far more comfortable, handles bigger seas in comfort, has a very light rig, and I do not need to have a trap to keep it flat.

I am 64 yo, so happy to be out there getting wet.

As I sail on Moreton Bay, the longer boat handles the chop well. I have not seen any boat setup that suits me as much, just love it.

I truly appreciate the suggestions & safety advice. I'm not one to run off and get hurt though, though I do enjoy watching Jack a$$ videos! Over the years I must say I've learned a lot by watching other peoples mistakes.

    Here are a few: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2GXUsPS6cw

Anyway, I'm crossing over from sailing big yachts to the smaller cats mainly because of their transportability, lighter weight & speed. I'm also a pilot and can tell you the meterorology & aerodynamic knowlecge cross over directly into sailing.

Most of the catamaran accidents & bloopers I've seen are caused mostly by underestimating wind speeds and/or direction. There's also blithering idiots on board and one need to watch those videos to count their mistakes one after another.

To ease concerns I'll be steering clear of wind speeds that push a particular design beyond its capabilities, and I'll be monitoring the wind & weather forecasts to keep me out of trouble. I'm also only interested in testing good, proven designs and the ones noted do seem to fit the bill.

PS Anybody know how to embed a YouTube video on this forum? The tags generated by the YouTube button (advanced editing) don't seem to work.

    Joseph:
    [ you tube ] what comes after v= [ / you tube ]

This should do it,just eliminate the spaces. There are sometimes more complex url's but it's always what comes after v= that counts.

Thanks Doug. On the topic of catamaran/multihull bloopers, is there a thread yet for that? I think it would be good for learning & humor to start one :D

There is a "Great Multihull Video" thread, but no blooper thread as best I remember. You can search the multihulls forum by opening the "index" page that lists all the threads and look at the top right where it says "search this forum".

Very well, I'll create a multihull blooper thread. It will be good for laughs & pointing out mistakes. With some of the new boats it may also provide a way to critique new design features that lead to accidents/mishaps.
