The top of the centerboard slot was widened with a jig saw. The rebuilt foil has a maximum thickness that's about 12mm more than the original board. The slot had to be enlarged. This is a common modification that I learned from the C15 fleet website. http://coronado15.org/joomla/



From each side, the amount removed was about the thickness of two saw blades.



The foils were built up with fiberglass and epoxy using the original boards as the cores. All fairing was done with straight pigmented epoxy alternating white and black. Some low spots are circled here and were filled and faired in this manner.

The centerboard was positioned in the slot using a plumb bob.



Whilst shimmed into position, epoxy shoes were cast on both sides of the leading and trailing edge.



The foil shoes were lightly sanded for fit.



Until they just dropped into position.



The foils were wet sanded up to 1000 grit. They are just starting to shine and ready to go sailing.

 

The hiking straps, control lines and hardware are reinstalled.

Monday, I took this boat out onto Sarasota Bay. It was a fast and fun sail.
