AC72 wind sensing equipment on bowsprit

    1. Does anyone have any information on how well the anemometers/ wind vanes set on the 'sprits of the AC72s actually worked; or, was windspeed/ direction also being measured at the mast head?

    2. are the average wind sensors robust enough to withstand being plunged in rough seas?

    Notwithstanding the issue of wind speed being lower and refracted at the water surface, having at least the windvane on the sprit would alleviate the issue of correcting for rotating masts.

    I would imagine that two wind sensors...one low one high are used to confirm wind sheer.


    How durable are they ? Ive seen them survive hurricanes. Perhaps if its fastening base is robust enough you can drag it thru the water.
