A Vaka is born, our next Proa, the 'HAVAYA 30/25'

Hi guys, a small update of our new build.
The VIDEO speaks mostly about Vaka hull design, I'm pleased with the progress and the results.

I'm sorry man. I misread. Figured you were only talking about design, so I didn't open it!

So I have one question. The leepod, when fully heeled will make a vee shape in the water which will affect trracking a bit? No?

So, would you prefer a flat edge to correlate to the heel or would you prefer light tracking? If so, you would you cut off the bottom edge at 20 degrees? Etc.

She is looking good. I am surprised you don't have a laydown bunk or was what you called luggage bunk big enough to sleep or will you hammock or tent?

 

Tracking is when pod is flying, it should never touch the water under proper sailing.
There is enough clearance under it, the Vaka is at max buoyancy in the middle, it should always be on it's waterline no matter how big the wave.
The bows will plunge and plow. The pod starts far aft and it's half round, so contact with sea is happening at an aggressively swept aft angle of attack.This pod is different to Russ Browns pods, those make contact under, this one makes contact sideways and under.

Sailing heel of the HAVAYA should be around 5-8 degrees, so another 10 are needed for contact, these are normal sailing conditions, if your pod is crashing into waves, you let the sheet fly and put in a reef. Yea, it takes 10 seconds, but I got used to it.......

the 2 berths start at midship, your feet almost reach the aka bulkhead. there will be 2 plywood bunks each side of mid ship. those will fold up and lay against the leeward wall, once up, there will be plenty sitting room do do what needs to get done. In nice weather with open hatch, you get standing room with a view.
