1976 Volvo Penta B20 2.1L

I am interested in swapping out the Volvo Penta engine for a newer engine with more power.
I am wondering if the block has a common bellhousing bolt pattern.
( I would like to install a fuel injected car engine, -GM, Mopar, Honda..)

Can anyone help me ??

 

You will have to make a bellhousing and also adapt the coupler. Further, you should check the various threads about marinizing an engine. GM is easy since you can use a variety of already made equipment. However, you will also need to change the gears and propeller. It is cheaper to buy a complete power package. Also, car fuel injection is pressurized at the tank, marine fuel injection systems are enclosed in the engine and have only a suction line to the tank.

Where could I find a complete power package? Online?

The boat is running a 5' solid brass prop shaft. Do you think the shaft needs a pillow block to prevent deformation at higher speeds/power settings?

I believe the transmission has a 2:1 reduction.

What is the diameter of the shaft? The torque applied to the shaft is the limiting factor. PCM may be the best deal.

 

what sterndrive is on the back, if its a 250/270/280 they all have the same shaft but that means get a 2nd hand bellhousing to suit a chev v8 6 or 4 and it all bolts together.
