    Hi,

this may sound like a very strange question. I just bought a 26 ft cruiser from a friend who was not really into boats and does not know its history.

I can't figure out what make the Diesel engine is. I do know it is attached to a stern drive - Volvo Penta 290 DPA, and I do know the engine is definately not a volvo penta. I think the engine is a v8 engine and this link will take you to a picture of it:

Can anybody suggest what make the engine is? Perhaps there's only a few types which would connect to a volvo penta stern drive.

Ultimately, I wantto sevice the engine but don't know where to start without the manual (for which I need to know the make).

    Thanks,

    Marek

You can hook up a lot of different engines to a Volvo 290 leg. This could be a Marinized Ford 7.3L but the picture is not difinite enough to tell. I could be a number of different engines. Look at the stampings on the intake manifold. You might get a clue from that.

Thanks. I'll take a look for the stampings.

    Marek.
