How much does one gallon of epoxy resin usually weigh in pounds or Kg ?

 

About 9 pounds (4.08 kg).

if you get a copy of the safety datsheet there will be specific gravity/density there. You will have to calculate from mixed product at correct ratio.

Asking your supplier would be better option than relying on the web to be honest.

Confusing question and answer....

The question mentions gallon which can be a US gallon = 3.785 liter or Imperial gallon = 4.546 liter or the commonly accepted "metric" gallon that equals 5 liter.
To further mess things up asked for weight in pounds or Kg and this begs the question - why have metric weight for non metric issues to confuse the reader?

The answer - probably correct knowing Par's reputation - is also misleading, simply because it does not state for which "gallon".

I cut my teeth in a metric environment, I still cannot belief how these old measurement systems can still be used in a world conformed to the metric system that is simple and easy to use.

I buy my resin in gallons and measure it out in CC's or mL's.

But...in fairness the guy who asked the question lives in the USA so I think that we can safely assume that he was referring to US Gallons.

In addition, based on the technical help he's provided to me personally in many aspects, I think we can safely take Paul's word on the weight of a gallon of resin.

BTW, how's Johnny Clegg? Is he still around? I remember seeing him here in New York back in the seventies, he was such a talented man!

My apologies for sidetracking the topic with this post.

MIA, Johnny is super - still around and sometimes presenter on local TV with a series program about magic and far out places in SA. I believe he just left or will be soon on a world tour, possibly his curtain call after a fantastic career so chances are good you can catch him again in action.. Just remember he is about 60 years young now.

This is sorta the point I was making. I don't doubt PAR's answer but the person asking the question would be better off asking the supplier. Then there is no possibility for misunderstanding. The internet is more than just forums, where unfortunately there is some dodgey information seen that may be assumed to be "fact"when it is at best misleading and sometimes just downright wrong. No matter how loudly someone insists "I have always done this".

Quite apart from the gallon issue, I did wonder why he only wanted to know the weight of the epoxy. Is he planning to ship it somewhere?...without the curing agent

Better to ask the weight of one litre of resin as its a standard universal size (i think )
The usa is a strange country still in the feet and inchs , pounds and oz's and miles . there gallons were never the same as any where else .
You are not the number one country any longer ,we are on the same planet so pack up ya tent and fall inline with the rest of us .

 

I thought a gallon was a gallon no matter what country, maybe a gallon is less than a gallon in China. We dont want to be like everyone else, thats what makes the USA so special.And PAR is right. Rick

Theres a imperial gallon and a usa gallon the usa gallon is smaller than a imperial gallon .

1 gallon (U.S. dry) = 4.404 883 770 86 ×10−3 m³
1 gallon (Imperial) = 4.546 09 ×10−3 m³

A usa gallon has 3.785 litres, an imperial gallon has 4.5 litres its what every one else uses therefore the difference between the two is
.715 of a litre.
