Volvo Tilt Cylinder Seal Kits?

Still rebuilding this boat of mine but edging closer day by day, I have being searching for tilt cylinder rebuild kits and have found some on offer, but the asking price is simply astronomical for a couple of wipers and o rings. I managed to rebuild 3 cylinders on my bobcat that requires twice the amount of seals for half the price of what they are asking for one cylinder on the sterndrive.
My question, If I remove the seals and take them down to my local hydraulic repairers/suppliers would they/could they be able to match the seals, or are they simply some unique seal that has to be specially made, and cannot be substituted?
If someone also has a supplier in Aus, that will do a kit I also would be interested.
For reference my cylinders are not the round end sort, they are square ended and come off a 290sp.

A cylinder is a cylinder and it not a very highly loaded cylinder either.

I would be definitely be going down the hydraulic shop without a second thought.

Even machining a new slot to fit another type of seal if necessary.

 

Yep, Good on you Frosty, basically confirmed what i was thinking. Just wasn't quite sure if thay had special rubbers or whatever?
I will remove the seals and take them to someone to match, pretty sure will work out a lot cheaper, and probably better than buying some of these ridiculously priced kits.

 

Hydraulic cylinders are pretty basic . Seals are easy to source.

Many times when a cylinder is leaking, the reason its seals have failed is that the piston shaft surface is eroded. The shaft is typically stainless steel ,chrome plated. The cylinder on something like an outdrive rests in the same position for long periods. It is this part of the piston , at the seal, that the chrome plating erodes.

Inspect very carefully or your new seals will rapidly fail.
