The Beau Geste Crack

    Here's a picture of the crack that occurred in the ocean racer "Beau Geste." Lots of net.speculation, but one surmise confused me. That was that the failure was due to core taper. My understanding of core taper is that it is done at "hard points" where fittings attach or at points of through hull penetration. Is it also done circumferentially?
