I have started this thread to gather some good ideas from people with good ideas. I have a few myself, like the PDE (Pulse Detonation Engine) or Valveless Pulse Jet. You have probably never heard of it, so here's a link to explain: http://www.aardvark.co.nz/pjet/valveless.htm. I was studying these fascinating engines when I realized that I could probably find some way to use one of these on a boat. Of course, I would need to find some way to silence it. I got to thinking, and I had an idea. I once read an article about firearm silencers, and I read how you could fire an .22 rifle with a good silencer and it would be almost impossible to hear. I know how to make a homemade silencer out of steel wool and some metal piping. I was wondering if a silencer that is covering the whole jet would work. To show you what I mean by these engines needing a silencer of some sort: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5U-grFuXZ9U
Oh yeah, these engines can burn pretty much any flammible gas or liquid.

    Another example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teQXaqeEnl8.
It has 10lb thrust as mentioned in the video.
This one seems to be the most effective design, it develops 50lbs thrust.

I like this idea because you could use it to drive the boat propeller: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1WwvESgPxk&feature=related
Why aren't we using this technology on airplanes or other stuff?!! It is WAY cheaper to build than piston engines and it has no friction and requires little to no repairs!! (the only one that has any friction is the turboprop one, the last one).

Huh? I was just metioning some ideas I had. I am still going to build WeeVee. I was just wondering if I could improve an idea that already exists.

The best way to improve an idea, that you didn't/couldn't engineer/develop, is to paint the finished product a different color when the mood strikes.
