Skin on frame speedboat.

Not sure there was much epoxy in use then.

I would stay close to the shore if I was using that boat.

It's not really SOF!!!

it sounded like it was 3 layers of that fabric with some sort of resin holding it together.

That mold looks pretty good actually...just fit together cardboard and a stretched fiberglass fabric over it.

I'd try that. Looks like you could make the fiberglass hull in a week.

 

cool video, it looks like they were brushing dope on which would make sense. that seals and tensions the fabric.

 

Why is it not skin on frame?

It is skin on heavy frame.

The frame was just used to set the shape of the fiberglass then it was removed once the boat was all set.

Skin on frame is when you have a permanent structural frame with fabric stretched over it.

Skin with removed frame, then laminated to create hull.

Still a cool idea, boat in a box.

It really is a cool idea.

Watching it again, they don't show any of the fiber glassing. The canvas we see was just to support the fiberglass as you were laminating layers together.

It looks like you completed the boat with a wooden deck and windshield and of course the motor and steering....not all of that was in the box!
