Seam around Sheer Line

I have an O'Day Javelin, 14 ft daysailer, hull is made of fiberglass, and the fiberglass deck piece joins the hull at the sheer line. These two pieces each have a horizontal flange, about 3/4 inches wide, all around the sheer line, and are stapled together by the original manufacturer.

The original cover for this joint was missing when I got the boat, so I made a cover by slitting a piece of porous watering hose lengthwise, and forcing it over the two flanges and staples, forming a crude "rub-rail" all around the boat (except for the transom, which is plywood). Gorilla glue was used to attach the hose, and this works reasonably well, however I need to do this fix again (after 15 years in service), and would like any suggestions as to what might be a better fix here.

Google "gunnel rubber" or "gunwale rubber".

 

Found an inexpensive solution that works very well. A good quality rubber garden hose, split lengthwise, and attached to the hull with Gorilla Glue. Best installed with two people, the hose looks good, is firmly attached, at a fraction (a small fraction) of the stuff available on boat sites.
