    Blackburn and Corley, you guyz are the best. I feel as though I should subscribe to your personal blog. I am very interested in this race, as a trimaran I own could be a "Multi 46" as it is very similar to the 50's. I just don't have the time right now to dig around for the racing news, so thank you from this reader, and, I'm sure, many others that follow the terrific info you folks (and others) post. Keep up the great work! Aloha...

    Routes des Princes 2013, leg 3

    AIS update Wednesday 0705hrs, Paris Time!

    The four (lower) purple boats are from top to bottom: Arkema, Fenetrea, Actual, Rennes-St Malo.

    Arkema is about eight miles south of Cap Lizard (sounds better than Lizard Point) and two miles north of Fenetrea. Their current speed is about 5 kts and there is 50 nm remaining to Plymouth.

    The MOD70's and PdB are 15 miles west of Bishop Rock, in the usual tight formation, doing 8-10kts. Gavignet still leads according to tracking...

    But how much comfort do they derive, from a lead of 0.2nm over the Gitana Boys?

    That is a webcam view of the sea from the Cornish coast (just east of Lizard), which showed haze in the distance earlier this morning and is now fog-ridden.

    So all the boats are now in fog, eyes glued to the speed and direction of their rivals? Fenetrea has for a while enjoyed slightly better speed against Arkema, and looking at the AIS they appear to be neck and neck.

    All boats are now to proceed direct to finish line at Eddystone Rocks, Plymouth. Course has been shortened on account of light air. Eddystone Rocks lighthouse is apparently 14km SW of Rame head.

    This is the first time I've seen a 'Finishing Line' tracker of this kind, updated every few minutes, and separate from the regular tracker:

    Fenetrea and Arkema both turned off their AIS a couple of hours ago, after which Fenetrea has developed a good lead of some 6 nm, they should be across the line quite soon - if they win this leg it will be their first leg victory and make them even with Arkema and Actual!

    Meanwhile Rennes-St Malo is just barely ahead of Actual.

    Wind along the shore is SW 5 knots or so.

    Fenetrea has switched on their AIS again, and if on the AIS map you switch on the AIS of Eddystone lighthouse (choose more/lights) then you get an idea of where the finish line is.

    They're doing 14 kts at the moment and the line is less than 3 miles away.

    So now the French tweet that the finish line is not at Eddystone, but inside Rame Head just in front of the glorious breakwater.

    The breakwater is drawn on the 'finishing line tracker'. Looks like they have just crossed the line as I post this.

    The race has finished Edmond de Rothschild first home and victor in the MOD70's and Team Lalou/Arkema second place on the leg behind FenetreA Cardinal and Team Lalou winners of the Multi50 class overall.

    Due to their excellent performance and points accrued prior to the capsize Spindrift still managed third on points and a podium placing ahead of JPD's new Virbac Paprec MOD70 team.

    The first boat home in 70 foot plus size was

    The 50 footers again a shorten course as they being slower boats.

    The 80 footer re build 60 footer showed clean heels on the new 70ft class design.

    Prince de Bretagne Trimaran. Scored the most points as the if you subtract the inshore races points as the 50,s and Prince de Bretagne it would appear were not racing in the inshore events.

    It would appear the organiser where anti having the 80 footer take part.
    Hardly got a mention from them all races in the credits and not even in the final results. I wonder how he feels. He got a lot of hits on all his photos and videos despite the lack of the media article exposures.

    "The Multi One Design or MOD is the new one design which will replace the ORMA 60 fleet. The performance objectives are to design for international, off shore racing. The aim behind a one design boat is to keep costs down, while maximising exposure in order to appeal to global sponsors.

    Key differences between the current 60’ Trimaran and the new 70’ MOD are:
    - Strongly orientated to off shore racing
    - Designed for a reduced crew
    - A fast, modern design with foils
    - A more condensed sail plan with a shorter mast
    - A longer main hull, sitting high on the water line to reduce the risk of digging in
    - Over all, the design is fashioned to favour offshore weather conditions."

    I don't think the organisers were against having the 80 compete as the event was sponsored by Prince de Bretagne. It was the only Ultime/G class to compete though so it wasn't really racing any other boats of the same class.
