Not bragging, but this is my best video to date. (It's not bragging if it's true, right?)

 

I really liked what you did here. I agree totally to use polyester whenever you can, not just because it is cheaper but also because if you work with epoxy a lot you can develop an allergic reaction to it and then you have to stay away from it completely, and if you ever have to grind it also, much worse than polyester.

Using the GFlex to just bond your glass-poly to the boat was brilliant. One might ask why not just scuff up and apply a layer of GFlex first and then layup the polyester glass to than. As you well know but did not mention this does not work either. Epoxy will bond to polyester but polyester will not bond to epoxy.

p.s. Just watched Part 4. Also great. Well done pointing out the danger of colloidal silica. Nasty stuff.

In the video I made a mistake by stating that the best bond is achieved after an alcohol wipe only. However, I re-read the lab data from West System and it clearly suggests that the strongest bond of G/Flex to polyethylene is achieved by "alcohol wipe, then flame treat, then apply G/Flex."
