I think we will have to contact him so we can build a sample. Looks like fun :D

    Hysu:

    Great system you have.

A few years ago I was contemplating the Prout Panther 64 with your foils-but a 2700 hp 45 knot Vosper jet drive vessel is no good in my area laden with logs,whales,dolphins,un-charted rocks, and ocean kayakers.

They've depreciated down quite nicely,if I could find one with blown engines it's be tempting to downsize the engines by at least 60%,and try to figure out an efficent prop drive for a 15 knot vmax liveaboard.

I've seen a 61 for mid $200s..can hardly build a houseboat for that.

What boat would be any good in that area. You need a helicopter.

We have been producing 19 foot Hysucats for a number of years. These are 21 foot Ribs but the hull length is 19 foot. We have been racing these boats in some of the worst sea conditions and we could never find any other craft of same size and HP to compete. You could contact me on malan@hysucat.co.za

HYSUCAT hydrofoil systems can be retorfitted to exisitng catamarans in many cases but this depends on a number of parameters:
    • speed of boat without foils
    • tunnel width
    • hull shape
    • weight and LCG
    • structural design
a thorough feasibility study thus needs to be conducted to ascertain if it makes sense to retrofit foils to the hull. Also note that HYSUCATs are very unforgiving to mistakes. The number of failed vessels out there is testiment to it. But THE TECHNOLOGY DOES WORK if designed by somebody who knows what he is doing. I sugest you get in contact with Prof. K.G. hoppe or myself if you want a properly designed HYSUCAT system.

If you need hydrofoils constructed, there is a specialist foil manufacturer in South Africa who builds most of the HYSUCAT foils for around the world for Prof. Hoppe and myself. Contact me if you need more information.

FYI, Technicraft is a reincarnation of a South African company called T-craft. It was the frist company to start serial production of HYSUCATs in the 1980s. After going bust, one of the directors, Nic de Waal started up Technicraft in New Zeeland using the same technology is from the same source: Prof. Hoppe @ Stellenbosch University.

HYSUCATs do not use NASA or NACA foils as these profiles were designed to work in air or in deep water - not near the free surface of the water. Near the water free surface one needs to take a different approach the profile design as the majority of the lift comes from the bottom surface of the foil. This is unlike airfoils where the majority of lift comes from the upper surface.

You won't find any book to teach you how to design a HYSUCAT. If you want to tackle it yourself, I suggest you take a look at the online libray of Stellenbosch University. There you can download some technical reports, theses etc. on HYSUCATs. However you will still struggle to get it right first time as the devil is in the details as they say... If you need help I am happy to assist you to develop a foil system.
