Need advice on splashwell steering tube mounts

Need advice on splashwell steering tube mounts


Currently I have the Sea star hydrolic steering tube’s inside a 2.5” Piece of PVC they are’nt secure was thinking about wrapping the tubes w/ rubber to secure tubes inside PVC.

I would prefer a actualle mount kit kindof like this

edit my tubes are made of plastic

however I would prefer something like the attached image w/ the Merc. would also like to have the same exit angle as the merc.


any advice on this is appreciated.

The Mercury outboard has a fitting that is watertight at the cowling. I am not sure what yours look like. However, you can simply fit a hose over the PVC pipe to make it look neater.

 

I was actually thinking of rerouting the tubes, instead of them pointed straight backward have them routed though the side of the splashwell.

what do you think of the though hull mounting?

The side would be fine. If you run them from the transom, all the wires, hoses and cables will be exposed to damage.
