Please help...I have been scouring the internet looking for plans or designers of a 21' power cat. Looking for something with a flybridge, cuddy cabin, swim step, good offshore/roughwater capabilities, efficient, and clean lines. I have spoken to Noah Johnson of East Cape Marine. THey quoted me at 3000 american for a custom design with 3d rendering and everything. The only problem is its a little steep and i think they only do cnc cut files. On the Big Island of Hawaii it is very hard to find someone who can do cncs(no to mention expensive). I would be willing to spend some cash but 3000 is a little much for a one off boat. I was looking more for someone that can give me full size patterns with no lofting required. Just cant seem to find anything i like in plans...Anyways here are a few pics of cats that i really liked the lines of. Hope somebody can help!

Apparently a man named Steve Gates used to build the Holo 24 power catamaran on Kauai. He sold the business several years ago but his son put his old web site online again for historical reasons. If you're interested in a boat like this:

Here's the web site for more info and pictures. Maybe his son can help you get in touch with the new owner to see if he sells plans or boats:

Morrelli & Melvin have plans available for a 22ft cat for $1400,its a center console but maybe they would draw a cabin for you, they are world renown cat designers so their plans are not so cheap.
Glen-L also have plans for 22,24,26,&28ft cats for construction in either plywood or welded aluminum in either center console or cuddy cabin models, plenty of photos on their website showing customer built boats under construction and finished, some with nice looking owner designed cabins. Their plan prices are very reasonable,$275 for the 22ft model,i dont know how to post a link but you can google them like i did.
    good luck,Steve.

Big Island, While I am not a boat designer, I have lots of experience in many and various boats in your home waters. If you have been on the open water in a small boat in the last month or so, you must know why I submit these observations:
You are asking a lot from a 21' boat. Notice that all the designs submitted sofar have fully covered cabin. This is because they are very wet boats, not to discount the merits of catamarans, but they are wet. (consider the very strong possibility of being totally covered by a wave or two) Also note that there are none offered with flybridge arrangements. To avoid capsizing, weight must be kept very low since the beam is going to be only about 8', and adding a flybridge above the cabin will present quite a sail area, as well as contributing to stability issues.
Someone is building small power cats on Molokai, shouldnt be too hard to find. You need to talk to these guys, they are turning out some nice work. Good luck, Don

thank you to everyone who has replied. You've been a lot of help. To kapnD: thanks for your input. so do you think it's impossible to have a flybridge on a 21' cat? I understand your point about a lot of surface area high above the two hulls can cause stability issues. I just thought it would be nice because i havent seen any powercats with flybridges...do you think there is any way around it? Could i widden the beam to maybe 9'. Do you have any other ideas? The guys building cat on molokai are called Hawaiian Catamarans...Do you know any way i could get in touch with them? I have a lot of questions so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. to northern cat: i took a look at the design. I liked it but the wheel house is a little long for my taste but i will definetly be looking into the designs more. to kengrome: i have seen that website but never thought of giving them a call. I know someone with that exact boat on the big island and have heard good things...thanks for the suggestion. I am maybe thinking of just going with a hardtop now. The only thing i dont like about that design is its lack of storage space. I wanted a cuddy for some over night stays. To Steve W: i have also taken a look at there plans. I liked the lines but didnt see anything with a cab. I ll will be writing them soon for more infromation. Thanks for everyones help here. Any other suggestions of comments i will really appreciate it. Mahalo(thanks) and happy new year

i have seen a flybridge on a 20 ft cat it was used for photographic work and when the fish were on for spotting marlin/pelagics, it was made out of stainless tube and wouldnt have contributed an awful lot of weight to the boat, as for craig schionnings plan im sure it wouldnt take much from him to redseign it slightly for what you want as he is quite open to that sort of thing

Big Island, I didn't say it was impossible, just wanted to caution you that it's dangerous territory up there! Maybe think more in terms of a somewhat lower command bridge or as mentioned above just a tubular frame on the roof (I'd prefer aluminum). Just keep in mind that catamarans do not have the self-righting tendancy that a deep-hulled mono does, so you don't want to do anything that will significantly raise the cg. Unless you fish exclusively in the calm Kona waters, you need to plan your boat to handle some pretty extreme conditions. Offshore fishing/boating in the islands is truly fishing in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and you must be prepared for what happens out there.

First of all it is Noah Thompson....

Next.....be carefull what you write in a public forum my friend.
You approached me to look at a design specific to your request. I offered you a professional design work quote, based on your ideas, and you asked me for that.. You did not ask me for full sized patterns, because if you did, I would have said that's fine. The designs I do are all 3d kitset. To do a 3d model and accurate CNC kitset takes time. Your idea of putting a flybridge on a 21ft cat is not ideal for stability reasons, as others here are also trying to tell you... The pictures you are posting and sending out are of vessels 30ft in length, not 21 feet. If 3000 USD is to much for a professional kitset power catamaran design for you , then what quality of boat are you really going to build ??
