So Mr Efficiency front up and give us the technical answer to your question, if you can't do that then "listen and learn" rather than disparage those who try.

AdHoc has over the years given rather pertinent insight into some interesting questions, my guess he knows far far more than you about naval engineering. Perhaps it maybe time to sit back and learn from the learned rather than trying to dumb down the thread to your level, you never know, you yourself may learn something you didn't know.

Was there ever any doubt "he knows far, far more" than me about naval engineering ? But brother, he knows sweet bugger-all about common civility, and you can back that in to hot favourite ! He could be the Werner von Braun of catamaran design for all I know, but I suspect if I'd have asked the famous rocket scientist about the design of an Apollo moon rocket, and he answered in German, I'd have learnt as much as I have from Ad Hoc. Now, you may say that is because I am just too dense to follow the discourse properly, but the reality is he is more intent on talking down to people than helping then appreciate the intricacies of the subject.

I'm sure with his over-the-top arrogance and astonishingly smug self importance, (a trait that actually does not reveal intelligence) he has run into communication problems many times before. Probably can count himself lucky, if he ever actually sails, crew have not swung a heavy winch handle and over transom rolled him.

And waynemarlow, this is after all a public forum where the membership typically are amateurs, rather than experts, so it is not reasonably to be expected that conversations must proceed at a highly technical level. As TANSL says, there would be other avenues for that.

Guys, get over it and man up a bit, sometimes you have let people talk to you in a way you find distasteful, to learn. Remember your teachers at school, remember the tutors at Uni, they all had the knack of talking to you in a way which annoys most, but you did lean a lot of things from them.

Actually wayne, if the great man did occasionally throw the odd crumb our way, I'd agree, but as I see it, he has taken to heart the biblical advice about not casting pearls before swine !

But that is only your view, there are an awful lot of others who do understand the crumbs and do acknowledge his postings. Your lashing out because he's not writing in your terms, will only limit the knowledge on this forum to your level, thats the last thing I would want.

If his musings are not to your taste then you could always ask that any response to your question should be in layman terms. Remember there are others on this forum who might like a more educated and detailed response.

With all due respect to this forum, I think is great in many ways, but I think, waynemarlow, you have not correctly positioned it in academic / intellectual terms. We must ask a high educated level but the medium technical level is another matter. (I only refer to aspects of naval architecture and naval engineering).

Enjoy your crumbs wayne, I've found them unappetising, to the point of nausea.

Tom.151 Best boat so far? Crowther Twiggy (32')

It's just not possible for all of you antagonists to have the biggest ****. A little self-realization might go a long way here.

That reply is of a small boy spitting out his dummy, hang in there, organise the musings in a way that you can understand by doing back ground reading from other sources, there are some real subjects discussed here on this forum, at a level that most can understand and that imparts a knowledge that few other forums will do.

Guys get a room has everyone forgot how simple the OPs original question was?
    "length/beam ratio of around 20
I am looking for resistance data/prediction methods for very slender hulls, with length/beam ratio of around 20 and Froude number of up to 0.8-1.0. Anyone?

The guy asked a question of supposed intelligent people on a boat design open forum (go figure)
Some good advise and different opinions come forward, hell we have this on a daily basis in our design team usually with a good result at the end of it, hence our motto is "no one person is as smart as many"

Now here we have a pissing competition.
There are doers (Gary to think of one) and talkers (a few spring to mind)
This is turning into a Doug and Chris O show of days gone by.
Ok so the guy is a d--k in some peoples eyes and not so in others, get over it it is life there are plenty out there who think I am a d--k also and plenty who don't. And now probably after this post many more who think I am a new D--k....
    Have a great day everyone..
PS Gary like your new design,

    Craig and team Ezifold

That’s the issue, he hasn’t, never does. Just brings his prejudiced mind and personal opines and offers little to someone seeking answers to technical questions. Other than…I don’t understand, make it simple for me, and takes over a thread with his endless protestations on such.

And then you get those who claim to know technical aspect of design are simply exposed as wanting, yet feel “empowered" by their trial and error approach to offer advice to others seeking hard factual data rather than subjective opinions and others who think this is a general arrangement, unlike this or this. Sadly a non-exhaustive list of posters and their opines.

This forum/website is littered with egoistical bigfish in small ponds. Once they dip their toes into the big wide world outside their own little closeted “aint I important” environment, they become extremely small minnows in a very large ocean and can’t cope with it. No longer the big fish in a small pond they all lash out with pugnacious polemics and ad hominin attacks simply because they cannot answer the technical questions at hand and don’t like being exposed at lacking in the subjects they think/feel they know better than anyone else.

I tend to think these posters are older. The type who have spent some 20-30years grinding out blood sweat tears on “something”, and equate longevity on a subject with knowledge. Misunderstanding a concept on day one and still doing it 30 years later doesn’t mean after 30 years they are knowledgeable. It just means they are still making the same mistakes after 30years and don’t like being told and rather than go pick up a book and read and find out why, they criticise others that do know and do explain to others why. Their rants consistently expose their lack of understanding and knowledge, but their egos wont empower them to go read a book to find out why. Moaning and criticising in one liners is much easier, helps to massage their own egos. As very evident on this thread, and many others.

This is a boat forum and where people come and wish to know more on technical aspects of boats and design. They all fail to grasp this very simple concept. But hey as noted, simple concepts appear to go over their heads. They should find some other forum/website to shout their polemics...

Im not surprised you cant find one of many references already cited on this thread, owing to the endless nonsense chatter in the background.

Ad hominem attacks, do you say ? Like.........

"Well, if that means one less charlatan sprouting religious mysticism subverted for engineering, great "

    :D

And I'd like to eliminate you from the list of suspects for this "pugnacious" contribution, if you can help.......

Find somewhere else to thump your bible

    Crazy, zany stuff, hey ?
