I am doing a study for a client at work and they want to know all the possible mounting positions of different engines using just the factory mounting brackets (only engine block mounts) but some of the engines are legacy engines such as the Detroit Diesels 855s,871s,892s and a couple others. My question is does anyone know of a site that might have some of these old drawings on hand?

    -Regards

I'd suggest checking the local library for maintenance books, they likely have the measurements within.

Or a diesel rebuilder that's been around a few years...they may have some laying around.

Check engine dealers. I have had many customers show up with 'oldies' and the dealers have been really good. The only time I have had real trouble is when the client shows up with a 'conversion' - like a 8V-53 converted bus engine in a 54' home built trawler he wanted me to help him with - (I didn't). Go Figure!

I got another question did Detroit Diesel ever make a 855s block??? that's what my client has listed down but I can only find that Cummins made had an 855ci block.

While many engine MFG state their engine by its cubic inch capacity Detroit doesnt.

The 6-71 is a 6 cylinder engine with 71 ci in each cylinder

The 8-53 is 8 cylinder with 53 ci per cylinder.

This was done so the purchaser could select just the proper sized engine required .
