you have got to love this OLD THREAD
    http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/showthread.php?threadid=418

How have times changed ZF gearboxes have become undeniabily expensive!
Oil going to US$ 120.00 per barrel.
Boats will go at 5 to 8 knots or stay home.

When i read this i salute the "old" boys - this is what i have been looking for and finally found it, i posted some time ago ZF gear boxes for 10 to 15 hp simple forward / neutral / reverse and all the replies where stupid, ebay, second hand, car, etc. Here is the very good answer!

Simple air cooled 10hp diesel (rope start) and a kitchen rudder:D :D :D

Building cheaper boats? Better start looking at alternatives:D

    Manie,
If SWMBO had not cut all funding for R&D I would have a nice little 20 footer with a box keel, powered by a small air cooled diesel, and controlled by a tiller operated Kitchen rudder.
The idea gets little traction because everyone wants a boat that goes fast even if it stays tied up to the dock. ;-)
