We are considering purchasing a 1987 Jefferson 42 Sundeck and would like to hear any comments on this boat, positive and negative.

    Jefferson 42 - beware

sunflower, I hope I'm not too late getting back to you. My dad had a Jefferson 42 of the same vintage with a laundry list of problems you would not believe.

    For Starters:
-Improperly bedded fittings above and below waterline.
-Rotten Balsa core in hull sides, swim platform, sun deck, deck.
-Mild steel valves seized with rust.
    -Failed welds in fuel tank.

Proceed with caution and get a surveyor that you trust.

Clark UR correct, but I chose not to give much advice re. surveyors,as he is the usual 1 or 2 poster looking for free help (on other forums also) without giving any in return, nor bothering to reply back.
