Inboard Ring Gear Replacement

Hope you can help. To change the ring gear on my 95 Malibu is it easier to back off the shaft and remove the tranny, or lift the engine out?

 

I'm not all that familiar with your boat. That being said, pulling the transmission is quite a bit easier than the engine in 99% of situations. Transmissions can be removed with your hands

 

i'd say drop shaft back and remove gearbox
you will need to support the engine as the tranny will have the rear mounts on it

Unless you have a reason to pull the motor, I think that is your better path.
