I see Frosty's shown up too, Manie, with his anti-American twaddle. But upon reflection I suppose I can't complain too much about the thread going off-track, because I said everything I really had to say in my first post anyway.

So I guess I may as well just relax, kick back and enjoy the show....

Yes I did --kind went in one eye and out the other if you know what I mean.

With the shortage of non boating threads one needs to take the opportunity to vet ones spleen where one can.

Troy I am glad you shared that thought with us.

To quote Charles Dickens:- "My other piece of advice, Copperfield," said Mr. Micawber, "you know. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen nineteen and six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery. The blossom is blighted, the leaf is withered, the god of day goes down upon the dreary scene, and — and in short you are for ever floored. As I am!"

Having even a modest surplus makes things so much easier.

On the different level of the super rich they used to say about some luxury items, that if you have to ask the price, you can not afford it.

Don't judge others by your standards. The first half of the Dickens quote is one of his best known.

Anyway, what is the point of me adding quotes you already know, you won't learn anything that way. :D

I presume you mean Ena Sharples who lived in Coronation Street, Salford.

For the benefit of non UK readers this is an allusion to an early character in the longest running TV soap in the world.

You're right -- I should have left it implied.

I loved the OP, it reminded me of Hans Rosling marveling at the washing machine and any number of posts by Don Boudreaux on how incredible modern life is in the West -- and how amazingly rich we are.

You struck the same note. You, I, and just about anyone else who can read these posts are incredibly rich.

Are you going to stick with the Gadsden avatar or switch to Dixie?

If pointing out I feel blessed because I can afford a shrimp po'boy now and then makes me a 'union guy bragging about being rich,' I'm guilty as charged. Go right ahead and put me on ignore, if it means I'll never have to put up with your irrational, foaming at the mouth rants about unions again...

Sheesh. Hold on a minute, while I go find a 'throwing rocks' smiley:rolleyes:.

Ena Sharples was an actor in the soap Coronation street, It wasnt a real place , she did not live there. She actually lived in a place called Carelton in the suberbs of Blackpool where we got our dog from.

You were in good company Frosty. I suppose you would not swap Thailand for Blackpool promenade in February. :)
