hydrofoil and catamaran

i am interested to know the latest technology in hydrofoil, if its the hysucat/hysucraft or if there are any other later designs. and i heard that hydrofoil speed boats are more convenient and fit all sea states. is it true?

 

There are some new and improved designs that we were going to build in the Maldives, but the political climate since Feb 2012 has put a damper on all financing in that region. Let's hope that democracy returns to the Maldives.

High speed ferries is what Maldives need .... and a few big sports fishers for the resorts. The demand is still there, but the money has dried up.

 

Hydrofoil technology is a mtature technology. The physucs of which have been worked out in the 50s and 60s. Application of hydrofoils to catamarans started in the late 70s with the HYSUCAT being invented in 1980 and patented. Since the first 6m HYSUCAT was built in 1980 the technology was steadily applied to larger vessels (up to 36m), commercial vessels (where regulations are much stricter than on leisure boats) and military craft. Current developments of HYSUCAT technology are now focusing on the details as the basic configutation is as good as you are going to get. Focus areas now are:
- composite hydrofoils instead of steel
- slight variations in foil geometry
- optimisation of the hull shapes. The optimum hull designed around the hydrofoil system still has a lot of scope for improvement.
- development of HYUCATs for semi-dispalcement speeds
- development of HYSUCATs for ulta fast applications (60 knots+)

Zeebass, to answer your question, yes HYSUCATs d offer a softer ride than monohulsl or Cats in all sea conditions.
