I am for the looking for a good table of offsets for the SS United States. So far, internet searches have revealed a few lines plans but hopefully someone has the stations in a table of offsets form that they could send?

I do not have the table of offsets but if you send me a hull lines plan, in pdf , jpg or tif format, with good definition, I can create the table with my software.

Thanks. I plan to put this into Michlet and eventually Flotilla to get resistance curves.

Michlet can use up to 81 waterlines and 81 stations so I will have to take the offsets from the lines plans and smooth/interpolate them.

I'll post whatever results I get from this :)

I increased it to at least 161x161 (or 201x201) in the last couple of versions. I haven't looked at it for quite some time.

johnhazel, please tell me if you get the table of offsets in some other way to stop my job. It is a laborious task and will never be as accurate as the original table, although I always try to approach a lot. Thank you.

Yes I will do that of course. I have from time to time searched for a SS United States' Table of Offsets in the past 2 years with no success.

Ah so now I can set it to 101x101 or 201x201 to think decimal-wise about where I am on the hull in my spreadsheets. :)

I routinely pass her by when I cross the Walt Whitman bridge into Philadelphia. Even in her current state of disrepair, she is still a beautiful machine. Such a shame to see her rot, I hope something is done with her other than scrap.

Really, are they necessary 101 sections to determine the seaworthiness of a ship?. I was thinking of doing about 20 hull transversal sections.

I think there are only 20 sections in the section lines of pdf we are looking at. From those offsets I will generate the sections in between.

Then perhaps you prefer I send you a hull lines plan in CAD, instead of the table of offsets.

No, I work with offset tables on spreadsheets to avoid being trapped by some programmer's idea of what good smoothing or interpolation is.

Attached are a couple screenshots so people can see the lines plan we are talking about.
The area of intrest is below the 31ft waterline
