Building a female mould. No gelcoat planned; pva and peelply. Boat is getting petit protect n a 2 part paint.

Just want to know if there is a faster surfacer than spray paint. The last one I did I waited 7 days for the gloss rustoleum paint to harden to fingernail hard. And this mould is holding up other work. The other one wasn’t.

I have two days of mould finishing before ready to surface coat.

    Thanks.

Sounds like a product problem, not an application problem. Spray painting wont affect hardening time. Its the chemical reaction that is the problem I bet.

Right, rwatson, so do you have any advice for coating moulds fast?

Yes. Talk to a few professional coating suppliers in your area. Dr Google is your friend.

Mirotone sanding sealer. Normally add pigment to help see how much you’re spraying on

I will see if I can get this stuff. It looks like the gel time is 16-24 minutes, but the datasheet doesn't give a cure time; just a sanding hard finish time of 8 hours. Is it safe to assume 8 hours is full cure?

Normally ready to sand in a couple of hours, but it would depend on ambient temperatures.

Dr Google is FULL of people complaining about slow drying Rustoeleum. Who suggested that in the first place ??

I honestly didn’t get a brand rec; someone just told me to spraypaint it. Like I said, it didn’t matter before; the mould was made a month or two ahead of time. This mould is for the beaching keel and conforms to the hull. It just got fillets and radiuses. Another day and it will be ready to duratec. My supplier carries it here in the cities.

Hull#1 is upside down getting some bottomnwork and I want it out of the building by Jan 30, so I can’t watch paint dry a week.

    Thanks ondarvr!
