    Right, I'd thought about that- or drop it over the transom like an outboard. Id does seem like uneccessary duplication tho. But it would allow for a feathering prop.

    Can someone outline to me why regen efficiency is so poor. Is it simply that the motor is not optimised as a generator?

    It seems like, for our purposes, regen is a key capability - I'm keen to understand more.

    I think a purpose built regen system you drop over the back when stopped might be the go?

    There are some in the market that look like a small outboard. The propeller is optimized for the job. I suppose a trolling motor could be modified.

    To push a boat well a large diameter slow turning prop is required.

    To pull HP from the water the dame big diameter and slow speed is required.

    If its efficient it is a SPEED BRAKE.!

    Fine on a sail boat just below hull speed , where more power would just make a bigger bow wave , otherwise much un fun.
