whats that for a nonsense? who makes a 60-65 wooden classic for 300.000$? You have forgotten the "2" in front of that figure!
And Burnett or Sparman & Stephens are not that classic, you look for? But "Dorade" was?
I´ll tell you what, finish school and sort your dreams.............

Maby this S&S design is right for me. Well, I was seeing my boat builder, and 300,000$ for 60ft hull is all I need. I will pay about 300,000$ for only hull. And about the designers, I wrote to some designers but I didn't got my answer about plans and that's my exciuse.

I don't know what are the cost's of building boat's in US or UK, but las time we made a 13m long wooden-epoxy sloop we paid about 150,000$ for whole boat. My company, had sold about 30 bigger then 10m boat's in 6 year's and the most expensive was a bruceo class (steel hull).

And, if You want to pay 2,5mln us $ for 20m 60-70ft shooner, is Your's choice that You want to throw your's money away. My boat is my dream, that I'm starting to change to reality...

    hi classicyacht..
just a short one regarding cost.... for the hull only , 300.k usd , is ok..(don't forgot to look cost for ballast, lead is like gold price in some place.!! .) don't forgot than hull is around 25 to 30% of the whole boat, in terme of cost and time , but look like if you have already a boat!! :D
if we talk about proper standard quality boat of course...
when you start to look all internal finishing in time, and for rigging, custom casting, fitting, pumps, sail, engine, systems, electric, deck stuff and so and so,, it's look one small items each time , but you have thousand of them.. of scourse you can do simple, is enven more expensive!!! but best wish for your project, i'm the guy in the philippines building now a 50' schooner on nigel irens desing.. i like fast classic:cool: ..
here i save on the labour, what is almost 50% of the cost, and paid more for almost all other items!! excepted wood..
    all the best..

    and
Thats quite a bit of difference yes?

And nobody likes to pay 2,3 million $ for a 65´ boat. But when we are talking "classic wooden build", we are talking experts, shipwrights, boatbuilders! Not backyard or substandard building. And experts cost some money (when you can get them). Then we are in that ballpark, like it or not.
When we are talking "classic looks" you may be able to hammer the sampan together at 1 mio$.

Of course that was possible in Poland (is´nt any longer), but what has that to do with a all wooden classic boat like "Dorade" ?

Well the Dorade is bigger than 13m, but the company stay's the same. I'w got the chemicals, paints for free, i'm paying about 20% of market price of sails, the hull is made for good 200-300 year's old wood and for deck, I also pay 20-30% of market price.

The electronics, pumps and engine is already in my workshop. I'v got a lot of friend's in Yacht building companies in Poland, so usualy I got 50% off price. So I won't pay more than 600,000$ for whole boat.

The only problem is, that I can't deside what boat I would like to build, and that's why I'm waiting for suggestion's of good classic designs I could buy.

    PAR Yacht Designer/Builder

The bottom line Classiboat, is you need to hire a designer or pay for one of the classics. The cost of the design is a small fraction of the total cost of the build, so short sheeting on this aspect isn't a wise investment.
