Alternator 12 to 24V conversion

    This is an informative post. We have a build of a sailing catamaran going on and alternators were replaced to 24V on 12V engine. Objective was to get the ignition switchboard working as designed, getting battery warning light and RPM counter working.

    Exitation now comes from the coil of 24V relay instead of light; on secondary side the original D+ (green cable from engine connection) wire gets grounded, making the light go on when ignition is on, and turning the light off when alternator charges and relay goes off.

    For the RPM counter the 24V is turned to 12V by voltage divider of 2 resistors.

    Tested and works. Took some thinking, maybe makes life easier for somebody else...
