I would be interested in buying a 1978 NY40 Palmer Johnson/Doug Peterson but I cannot find any information on these boats. Can anyone help?

    Thanks

Thank you! That is actually one of the boats I am considering. But, again, I am trying, without any luck, to find more information about the history of those boats. I think there was a book published on NY40 but I cannot find it... Thanks anyway!

I have owned hull #6 of 22 since 1988. What would you like to know about the boats?

I worked at the boat yard where we built them. Then I trucked them north for the interiors and then to the east coast to deliver. What do you want to know?

Everything! What yard built the hulls? Where they finished by Palmer Johnson? Or did they just sell them, like some of the earlier Nautor built boats.
How many were built, etc. I too was curious about this class.
    Thanks.

    Sonosail,

They were built and transported by Young's Yacht Sales (and boat yard) in New Orleans. O.J. Young owned the business. He moved to Texas and still works with boats but you would have to run him down via the Internet and phone calls as I did a while back when I decided to give him a call. He knows EVERYTHING about the boats as his business built them. Mr. Dryfiss was one of the best keel men in the business and he did the keels. I started working at the boat yard doing bottom jobs and worked up through the yard to driving the 18 wheeler which we owned and used to take the boats to Palmer Johnson near Canada for custom interiors. I would drop a boat and pick up the one I dropped last trip and run it over to Rowayton CT to put in the water. Then I would dead head to Fla, pick up an Endevor or Gulfstar etc and bring it back to New Orleans for our brokerage. I do not remember how many were built but that is easy to find out. Check with the NYYC for their part of the history of the NY 40s. Run down OJ and then write a book about the NY 40s (remember to get the truck driver's stories LOL:) BTW, OJ is in the Houston area I think. He has great stories to tell about that time in NO history. He lost his wife, business, Yacht Club fun, etc... but such is life.

Did that help you? If you want to keep in touch with me this board is not the best way since I just joined to reply to the NY 40 post and then I am gone (no time for too much more). Google MIBstudios.TV to find me

    RE: NY 40 questions

    Hello,

I own Hull #9 and live in Fairfield, CT. I would be happy to share my knowledge of these boats. They are a terrific design.

Yes, by all means. This is what I have but not sure it's right.http://www.sailboatdata.com/viewrecord.asp?class_ID=2514 I'd love to get a hold of a brochure or drawing or something. But whatever you know would be apprediated. Thanks.

    NY 40 Response

    Randy,

That is the boat - so the info on that listing is correct. There are 4 or 5 on Long Island Sound that are active. Some have been re-powered. I just installed a new Yanmar 40 HP in August in my boat. Solid glass hull, great cockpit design for ocean sailing. Send me a note directly at robertstephan021@gmail.com for more info.

Not trying to necro an old thread,
But, I have the exact same question as the original post.
I am looking at a NY40 hull number 21 ( last in the line ) and there is no information about it ( short maybe this thread ) online.
I am hoping to get some information besides what is listed already from you guys.
