    Hi guys,

I'm about to recore the deck on my Triton, and have been doing some soul searching/thinking about resins other than epoxy... with the price of oil ever increasing, I'd like to keep any future repairs, repairable without resorting to epoxy... or grinding back to polyester and starting from scratch.

Anyway, my question: Does vinyl ester have strong enough adhesive properties to do away with the layer of mat binding it to old laminates? Mainly I'm wondering if I need the mat under the balsa wood like I would with polyester... or is it adhesive enough that thickening it and troweling it on like epoxy will do the trick?

On structural repairs, is the mat still required between layers of roving, or is it like epoxy where it doesn't need it? Will biax work or do I need the mat backed stuff...

    Thanks guys!

    Zach

Even though VE does bond better and is stronger than polyester, it's still recommended that mat be used for good results.

Sounds like mat still has its uses. :D

Did some poking around the internet and haven't found much about corebond. Jack, do you have a source for it?

    Thanks,

    Zach
