I enjoy seeing these old school approaches, but wouldn't want anything to do with one. It's akin to enjoying an old log cabin, but having zero interest in standing in a pit, with a 8' long saw, getting out rafter timbers. I've also seen up close and personally what those tools (above) can do to your shins. No thanks . . .

Which makes me wonder, are those tips, getting a longer axe or working on your knees, also good injury prevention tips for the above shown axe works in Viking ship building ?

As I don't know if one can work on the knees with an axe on such a keel beam, so maybe getting a longer ax handle is a better idea here ?

 

Wearing armor/armour would help.
