I have a sprung spare engine bracket on my boat. The type is quite popular.
It has a lever to push to disconnect it and allow access to put the engine into the water.
The lever has 3 positions to lock up at.
The springs are still strong, but when I'm towing the boat, the engine flops up and down.
There seems to be some slack somewhere.
There are 3 hooked slots in the aluminium bar that engages the lever.
Because I don't know what shape the slots should be,I can't figure out if they are worn.
Just hoping someone has come across this problem and knows the answer.

It sounds like all that flopping on the trailer might have worn the slots.
You could try looking it up on the internet (google images) to check the original shape of the slots.

If your engine bracket has aluminum arms, more than likely the through bolt holes are worn causing the looseness.

The spring should push the stop arm into the slot irrespective of the shape of the slots.

Remove the spring, check the tolerance of the through bolts, if possible you may be able to drill these holes and install a larger diameter bolt or alternatively, drill the hole even a bit larger and install a sleeve and use the original bolts

I may get a piece of ally and make a new bar,on inspection, all the hook up holes are worn, and the locking pin holes are worn also.
    Thanks for your advice "V"
