Seaworthiness of Some Olympic Classes Questioned

    It's not the wind speed, it is the seaway as you said in your title. Columbia River often gets twice the wind speed, but no waves because of limited fetch. Conversely, Monterey Bay could have no wind and rolling breakers from the north Pacific. Don't even start me on the 3 last AC venues...<roll eyes>.

    Is it not also a latent question for the next AC36 in Auckland waters, where wind and sea state can be like for this race 1 of the 2003 AC31 edition (where the NZ boat faced some misfortunes) :

    It isn't too hard to do the vector calculations and arrive at the apparent windspeed the boats will be experiencing.The 470 also has the advantage of being a bit under-canvassed.I also doubt that too many sailors actually enjoy sailing in 25 knots or more.It certainly takes a toll on the sails and those of us who sail for fun rather than medals get to buy those.

    Thanks for the video -I watched all of them but the first was incredible for TNZ. I'm having a hard time envisioning NZAC 75's in conditions like that!
