Hello. I'm doing CFD simulation of the hull and i'm getting outputs for x pressure force, y pressure force, z pressure force and shear forces. Maybe my question will sound stupid, but should i consider z axis pressure (or even y axis) for resistance? As i understand some of the thrust will be used to lift hull upwards (extreme example of this would be hydrofoils or planning hulls), so total resistance should be x pressure + z pressure - displacement + shear forces? Or is it just x pressure and shear forces?

Note: z is pointing downwards (or maybe upwards)

Do you have an engineering or physics background? Do you understand the concept of forces as vectors?

Yes i have. I just never thought about hydrodynamic lift in displacement ships and its influence for resistance.

So you understand you can't add force components on different axis !
