I got a canoe for free (case of beer) from a friends neighbor. It needs some minor repair.

I have re-fiberglassed the yoke into place, sanded down the hull and repaired a small patch.

The canoe seems to have a lot of flex compared to other fiberglass canoes I have used.

Is this cause for concern? How can I go about making it more rigid?

Is it possible to install a thwart or two onto the canoe? If so how would I go about doing that without damaging it? Could I just drill into the side? Would I have to use a fiberglass repair kit?

Would installing a few ribs help? - It only seems to have that extra flex between the yoke and stern.

Any information would be greatly appreciated

    Hey Chris,
I just picked up a frontiersman myself. Handy but on the low end of the scale as far as longevity goes (even though they're ancient) but good for beginners and casual paddlers.
do a search on youtube for "frontiersman canoe" and look for 2 vids from jeff katzer titled "frontiersman canoe project" he shows the trouble spots on these canoes caused by design and shows how he fixed them this past winter down in Worshington.
