Worlds quickest and fastest propeller driven watercraft, Ellison outrigger liquid quiker sets both ends of the world record 4.58et @ 270.2mph to back up a 4.59 et@260.60mph. They gave them the et record but not the mph for some strange reason!

    Can you provide more information?

Where, when, over what distance etc.

    Also - what is a "4.59 et"

It is a drag boat, the times are 1/4 mile (1320ft) ET is elapsed time . It was in augusta ga, IHBA national event. They also went on to win the event. First and only hull to run 270mph in the quarter mile. Old record was 4.74et@ 255

    Very Tricky,
    I would like to add:

I believe, The elapsed time is the Time starting 100 ft from a "Dead Stop" and ending 1320 ft down the course, with terminal speed of over 270 mph. Very quick (e.t.) and Fast (mph) to say the least.

The reasons why you can not claim the MPH world speed record are....

    1) Your run was not over a measured 1km or 1 mile marked course.
    2) Your run was not repeated in the opposite direction, to finish within 20 minutes of the first run starting.
    3) Your average speed if it could be calculated probably does not break the existing record.

There are also other tiny technical things that have to be met, like who does the timing, what method is used, the number and type of measuring instrument etc.

Your terminal velocity may be very high, but the average velocity over the 1 mile or 1 kilo course is what is measured.

Just for simplicity we can guess that the boat could do the mile in the same sort of time it does the 1/4 mile. So roughly you do the mile in say 18 seconds, which would give very roughly an average speed of 180mph as it is measured.

    That is very very quick!

First of all its a drag boat not a kilo boat. It is a sanctioned certified course at a national event. The reason the mph was not given as a record was a recording malfunction. NO drag boat or propeller driven craft has gone faster , kilo or not! do the math it ran 2.95sec to the1/8 which means it ran the last 1/8 in 1.64 sec. V average=d/t, 660ft(1/8)/1.64sec=402.44ft/secx3600(1hr)/5280ft(1mile)=274mph! It ran this twice in opposite lanes on two different days giving them the world et record.

It was powered by a J34 Westinghouse jet engine. Thrust, not propellor...

IMNSHO - not a real water speed record. Just a fast jet using water as a runway and forgetting to take off.... 317.6 MPH That is 511.11kmph

    IHBA 1/4 drag:
What class was he running in?
    Blown Fuel Hydro????
    Blown Alcohol Hydro?

Had to be one of those 2 classes and had to be a v-drive.

I've been around boat drag racing for a long time. We built several boats that held world records all the way back to the 50's.
Kern County boat and ski club 1950's and 60's Bakersfield CA
NDBA started in 1964 Perris, CA
APBA started in the 50's at Long Beach Marine Stadium
NJBA started in the 70's I believe

Boat drag racing started up in California only!

This is a boat my company built that held the NDBA Blown Gas Flatbottom record in 1965 at 117 mph. Back then there was no ET record. Picture was taken at Perris, CA (Skiland lake), home of the NDBA

IHBA record, Topfuel hydro, twin prop ellison outrigger hydro, I have built 5 to date. 3 currently racing. First hull was built in 05 so we have alot left with more runs. I beleive this hull can run 4.40's @ 280+ with more time, Dan Ellison

Congratulations Dan on the IHBA 1/4 Mile Top Fuel Hydro World Record. I'm sure that as the Team gets the boat further 'Dialed In' it'll be even quicker & faster.
