    When I first joined BoatDesign.net, I was so excited. Besides the camaraderie of fellow boaters, I imagined having access the vast amounts of experience and knowledge.

    Apparently even JP Morgan was wrong when he said
    "You can do business with anyone, but you can only sail with a gentleman."
    For I’ve see the occasional condescending, boastful, defensive, and derisive, and outright rude, post.

    Most commonly though, is the many that simply:
    don’t seem to take the time to read and understand fellow members’ posts;
    don’t seem to care to be positive or supportive of fellow posters' positions or objectives;
    don’t seem to feel obliged to reply on topic;
    seem to reply with a certainty their ‘knowledge’ doesn’t seem to support.

    Please everyone; we are, and can do better than this.

    I do not doubt that you have very powerful reasons to say what you say.
    In the other thread you posted, "Extreme Lightweight Aluminum Construction", I think many have read your posts, have tried to understand and have tried to give the answer they thought most appropriate to your questions.
    In any case your comments about people in this forum are subjective and not "supported on the knowledge" you have of people in the forum.

    So, if people tell you what you want to hear, they are gentlemen, otherwise maybe not ? :p I do not profess to be an expert on "extreme lightweight aluminium construction", but if it does not involve swaging or corrugating of the thin skin to create stiffness, I would say it faces an uphill job. Question is, what effect does that have on boat performance, and aesthetics, especially on sailboats ?

    TealTiger, I will answer your post in this thread. This is the post I received :
    No I have to prove you wrong and I can say you're right. I'm just saying, using your same reasons, your knowledge does not support what you say. So do not accuse anyone of doing what you yourself are doing. With all my respect and affection.
    If after these explanations do you think I can help on something, I'll be happy to do.

    Teal,

    We are all people.
    We also have vastly different backgrounds.

    Most of us at some time have been as you say, but the majority of time forum members are trying to answer questions to the best of their ability.

    Most people will not read anything but a very short message. This does not make it easy to explain a technical subject.

    You are going to have to ask for more explanation, provide more detail, have a thick skin and a lot of tolerance.

    There is a lot of value here, but you will have to work for it.

    Everyone's pet theories take a lot abuse, in part because they are not always right and others don't always understand what has been said.

    You too will have to try harder.

    Edit: One last comment - conversations on the internet are hard since there is virtually no feedback we are all use to having in a conversation.
