Have you considered the Queens Ann Revenge as a ship that you should have with 40 guns, which Blackbeard once sailed that waters off America and terrorised the Americans.

Considering that you are a design student have you considered to designing your own priate ship as part of a project for westlawn for your grading?

Nah... The idea of pirate ship maybe for training sailing and for charter for movee stage... The cosmetic outside I am not quite familiar with.

She is wood planking over steel ribs. 23 meters long plus 7 meters more for the pick. This one dates to the 1940's. The design goes back to the 20's. When she is out of water she has a beautiful hull shape.

I would look at Bruce Roberts "Spray" design. Several sizes & sever versions AND... designed for the amatuer builder.
Pirets these days use RIBs & AK 47s. Where has the romance gone?

 

I think most people when hearing the words "Pirate Ship" immediately get a Gallion-esk or Brigantine-esk image in their minds. A foc'sl and after castle are pretty much de rigeur to the mental image. There should be some square sails mixed in along with plenty of ropes and rigging. Some of this can be for show but most if it should be useable. A row or two of cannons is a must. Getting the scale right for a small vessel would be a challenge tho. I could have sworn I saw a Vacationer or Weekender set up with fore and after castles (small) and all the rest of the gear...it looked ready for the movies...but I can't for the life of me find it. I got to it from one of the forums I lurk on so if someone knows what I am talking about...let me know please.

Err... What? You mean a modern ferro cement body pirate ship would be a Great?

Dont know how big would be the size for a normal muvee studio ? A scale down model might get you famous and warm but no cash input from the muvee set.

There was a big steel hull covered in wood and fake wood to make it look like an old gallion in Marseille a few years back. It must have been 40 meters. This was built for a movie. After filming, it was used as a publicity stunt by giving tours of the boat in several med ports. Afterwards, it was taken apart and ???

There has been a few scenes shot on the Don de Vent over the years. The decks are 7 meters wide and fairly open for this type of boat. The latest technology allows filming in tight space. Bigger is always better however.

 

The boat I am talking about was actually built to use and is being done by an amateur boat builder. I am almost positive it is less than 25 ft long and I am sure parts of it are not to the same scale as others but the overall effect was very "piratey". Wish I had more time to search threads.

there is a fairly decent pirate ship at the Playmobil Fun Park nearby Nürnberg, Germany. It sure doesn't sail, but it might be a good ref. for what you are after.
Kids love being on a full-size version of their toy ship.

 

Point is Westlawn(and all those numbers) Do you want to be a pirate - or just look like one. To look like one slap a patch on your eye and use some of that timber to whittle a spare leg. But if you want to be the real McCoy - sell your timber and buy a secondhand MTB - preferably still with the Merlin engines and Vickers armament. Three-inch deck gun optional

 

Lumber Me Timber

Point granted Bergalia, but...

1. The lumber is not for export or mean to be sell due to the complex of the paperwork and the native that seem owned it but donno what to do with it.

2. I need a working version of a ship, maybe for short cruise and film taking.

3. While station in a loney marina it can be use as a tourist attraction and a fine pirate fish and chip restuarant.

That is so far in my thought.

Westlawn, The Bugis Phinisi is one real nice boat design. You can still have real pirates as crews, just add in some black powder cannon, maybe a 32 pounder bow chaser and a few rentaka/ swivel gun, but if you wanted to be a real nowadays pirate then open deck mid console fast boat with 4x 200 horses Yamaha out board is capable of handling the task. So pirates boats of what era you looking into?

I am looking for The Portugese Black Ship type or other Holland flagship. True Pirateship of that era are always as pirate ship are taken from the government by stealth or just rob from a rich merchant and modificated it to their liking.

I have a lot of pirate base storyline movee but couldnt decide which is best and which will cash in rent. But real motive is to have a good restuarant and draw in customer into the bay.

Phinisi is good... I have a few in my fleet but I am looking into the romantic era of European trade into Silkroad. Maybe Marco Polo ship is a good design to start with?

For that purpose Portugese Galleon is very catchy but the real boat is something like a sloop or the seven sail Phinisi. Marco polo ship is a Chinese junk. 'Kublai Kahn" is a Phinisi reworked to looks like a Chinese junk commissioned by two Germans and was used to track the silk road era business with the west. The choice is yours!
