I do fully agree with you missinginaction, but I picked something up and that is placing batteries parallel. Not a good idea. Except if all are brand new and the same model and type and size. I have for 7 years my 6 batteries charging via Schottky diodes parallel. One of my batteries have gone weak and it does not pull my other batteries down. I charge them via Schottky diodes and discharge them via Schottky diodes. I understood that Charlyipad will place batteries parallel (house batteries and auxiliary batteries . I like to see a circuit diagram from him, then one can properly advice him how to do it, the best way. Automatic charging relays are excellent, but if wrongly placed in a circuit not much of use. There must be a way to put a switch or a multiple switch simultaneously providing power to the whatever poduct needing a battery or where a battery has to be charged . But he needs to show us his wiring diagram. Bert

    Hi Charlyipad,

This is how I would have done it.
    Parallelbatteries.jpg

    Explanation.
    Your problems are as follow.
    a) Your outboard has an in build battery and generator.
    b) You need thus to bring 2 wires out red for plus and black for minus from each outboard. Although the 2 outboard batteries may be earthed via the sea, better to bring the earth back to the house battery with a cable.
c} You would like to have either outboard generators in an emergency also to charge your house battery for whatever reason, your solar system packed up etc. However I would protect it with a separate fuse.
    d) You would like to feed your (only a small) fridge, lights etc from a either outboard generator or battery
    e) You like to have your house battery starting your outboards. However if the outboard battery is flat. you have to disconnect it.

Well this is how I would have done it with 3 good quality single switches. But switching all 3 switches to on is a bad idea, but can be done. I am not in favor to have 3 different level of batteries placed parallel, either smaller or emptier of different make or model.

Sorry Charlyipad, I just came back from overseas, must have been very tired and did not see that the thread was placed on the 29th of April. I assume you have the problem resolved already before my replies.

I am pleased you figured it out in the meantime. The way I did it.
    a) the solar system can charge your battery engine-1 or engine-2 or the house battery However then it would be better to shift the connections fridges-lights etc to the center point of those 3 manual switches. You avoid to have batteries parallel. Normally not a good idea, except if the batteries are all fully charged and approx the same types.
    b) the house battery can start your engine-1 or engine-2
    c) the house battery can fill up engine-1 battery or engine-2 battery, in case the batteries are low.
    d) the engine-1 can charge your house battery or engine-2 battery
    e) the engine-2 can charge your house battery or engine-1 battery
Thus fully complying with the regulations.
However you need to bring the earth/minus out from both outboard engines to minus of the house battery.
