I have just uploaded a new version of my web site, and the major change is it now has a version formatted for mobile devices. Over 20% of visitors to my site use mobile devices.

If you open it on a normal size screen it will look odd but is still fully functional.

Any constructive feed back would be appreciated. Any problems you may encounter would also be appreciated so I can correct them.

Thanks. The pandemic has given me a lot of time to work on it, although I started over a year ago. Now it's up and running, but I am still going through all the links looking for ones that have switched from http to https. The ones that are still http can cause users to get that annoying message saying "the site you are trying to access is not secure?"

Found my first glitch this morning (a problem with the menu) but already fixed that. This is literally the Beta test. if all else fails I can reload the old pages.

You could make the menu X a little larger.

 

I'll do that. I'll have to see if there is a way I can do it by only changing the Javascript routine.

It doesn't really fit on my iphone and I am a customer and bought your electrical handbook and can't find it there.

 

Did you try to adjust the size. If you tap the screen twice it should resize itself to fit. At least that's how it's supposed to work.
As for the book, open the menu, under HOME at the top is Ikes Store. Should take you to the page.
If it still doesn't work on your IPhone let me know.

 

Hey Ike, thanks...learned something new...think your menu button could be bigger...all the best...already used a link on lightening...we are consulting with Ewen...but found some reading to get up to speed on it..

 

The font on the menu bar seems smaller than the disclaimer. So fairly hard to finger. I think when I resized the screen without a double tap, I actually lost the menu completely. So that was on me.

 

Thanks to everyone for your input. I have been designing web pages since the mid 90's using HTML (now upto XHTML), but this is my first attempt at doing one specifically designed for mobile devices. They use a lot of javascript, which I am not very knowledgeable about. But I'm learning. I'll resize the disclaimer. That's an easy one. It's pure HTML. I'll have to look at the size of the menu button. That's Javascript. But your feedback is invaluable, especially concerning the Iphone. Being an Android guy, I don't have access to an IPhone so I can't test it myself. I have several Android phones and a Kindle so I can test it on those but need your help to test it on other mobile devices. My daughter and son-in-law have Google phones and I'll ask them to see how it works on those.

I'll work on the menu button and disclaimer today. I'll post it when I get it done.

 

On the mobile version, I resized the menu bar (for some strange reason they call the three lines a hamburger) to make it much larger, and I added a note next to it. It Says: Resize to fit - Double Tap Screen. Hope this helps. Still working on a way for the page to detect whether it's on an android or an IPhone. I know there is code that does this but finding code that works with the HTML is not easy.

 

I also made the font for the disclaimer the next smaller size. I hope that it still can be read. Anyway, Thanks to everyone for your comments. If you come across any other glitches let me know. Oh yeah, almost forgot. Some pages have a link to a print page, a page that has only text and is formatted to print on regular 11 by 8.5 paper. There was a problem with those on the mobile site because they took you back to the regular website rather than the mobile site. Hopefully I fixed that too. Now when leaving the print page it should take you back to the mobile site and all links on the print page, to my site, should be to the mobile site. On the regular web site it still works the way it should.
