I have a 4.3 alpha one mercruiser. My ignition amplifier went out. Can i swap my whole distributor to a regular automotive one and still run the same?

No, because of safety issues. Automotive distributors are not spark protected. A new part will cost less and be simpler. What is the year and what is it doing?

Did you run through the Mercruiser ignition diagnostic checklist? How did you confirm that the module is bad?
