    Hydroplanes with no air trap pay a big penalty in hydrodynamic drag. When the Pay'n Pak team attempted in 1969 to break the prop-driven record of 200 mph with their no air trap Les Staudacher hull, the best they could manage was 162 mph.

    It's no wonder Ken Warby's air trap boat was able to go a lot faster than Campbell's no air trap Bluebird on a lot less power.
