Something that I would like to have more clarity on:

I was watching a program on TV called "swamp people" ??
    not sure of the name

anyway these guys go out in a flat bottomed aluminium boat and hunt / fish for alligators.
the dead alligators are brought back to some processing plant / abbatoir ?

Why? is the meat used or is it the skin, is it some kind of a delicacy?
Just curious, these guys bring back a lot, so they must have something going there, not just a TV show?

Gator meat is very tasty. The hides are used for manufacturing leather goods. The claws and teeth are sold as souvenirs. Also, it is a lot of fun going in the swamps.

It tastes like chicken but a little tougher. I love it. I worked in a souvenir shop where they sold the heads in all sizes. I saw a canoe once which had a big hole ripped out by a gator. One guy in north Florida reached down past his dock to clear a fouled line and got his arm ripped off by a gator he didn't even know was there.

    Well blow me away
3000 US$ for a pair of gator boots
no wonder these guys risk life and limb to "hunt" them

maybe we should have a design competition here at BD.net for a "better" gator hunting boat :D

Maybe a landing craft drop ramp on the front would help to land them in the boat.

on swamp people last night they trimmed all the fat off the gator meat ,apparently the fat is horrible , the indians used it for mosquito repellant., manie did you notice the home made outboard 1 of them has. looks like a v twin briggs and stratton with a chain or belt drive to the prop, moves the boat pretty quick and quiet too.

We can get crocodile meat here. Crocs are ubiquitous but the meat is still far more expensive than pork or chicken or even Ostrich.

Many croc farms holding 1000s of them, perfectly safe until there is a flood and then they say some have escaped,--oh-- how many? dunno.

Unlike most creatures, gators like humans, as we apparently taste like chicken. There's lots of folks that have survived a shark bite. They take one taste of our greasy butts and spit us out. A bear may kill you with one blow, but usually will not eat you and this is common among the animal world, they just don't like the way we taste. Not gators. They will grab you; drag your helpless *** under and stuff you into their favorite "seasoning place", such as a under a log or rock. In a few days after you've ripened sufficiently, they'll have a snack.

We in Florida and other gator areas, sailing in fresh water understand this well. A capsize here isn't a casual thing. Gators know what sailboats do and will trail you, hoping diner will literally fall from the sky. Why work when a weeks worth of food will drop in your lap. Yep, capsizes aren't nearly as fun, though the water is always warm (gator pee?).

You must sail very slow,--and drink too much.
