I am looking for free 3D designs compatible with freeship, specifically plaining motorboat hull designs (and if possible I am also looking for hydrofoil related hulls). Does any one know where I could possibly find some? I know i'm going to get flack from people about "no one wants to give away something for nothing" but hey I just thought I would throw this one out there and see if any thing shows up. Doesnt any one publish/show off their doodles and masterpieces that they know they will never build. Thanks in advance.

    SailDesign Old Phart! Stay upwind..

    Tom,
Having mentioned flack (which rightly should be "flak":)), you probably won't get any. Flak, that is.
You are more likely to get "free" designs from an individual seeing this post, and sending you something than you are from a website, but good luck anyway.

Gary's right on there, Tom... about the Hulls archive file. Must be nearly 100 different hull designs there to thumb through. Of course, they are not identified as planing, foiling, semi-displacement, etc. You'll have to work with them and have an understanding as to how they might behave once built. You'll also have to rescale them according to your target needs, so that will also take some time to address.

Still, you'll be able to have fun extrapolating their potential. Hulls can give you rough hydrostatic reference points and they do import to Freeship directly and Freeship has a dandy hydrostatic process on-board.

If this is about that 50 knot Trans-Atlantic cruiser, you'll certainly have some digging to do. Please let us know what you discover.

You can't Open them... you have to Import the .hul file. When you pull down the File menu option, you'll see Import. When that is highlighted, the Carlson.hul file option is at the top of the list.
