I am adding an Amma to my 16ft canoe I built a couple of years ago( "The Canoe Turtle"- on you tube) a question has come to me about displacement , How does adding an outrigger change the displacement of the Hull if any ?

Also, What would be a good basic boat design program for the beginner. Thanks

The displacement and the total weight of the boat are the same. They are equivalent quantities in different measuring systems. Boat design has a lot more important things than drawing. The understanding of the behavior of vessels in the water is the key to good design. "The Common Sense of Yacht Design" by Herreshoff is invaluable as a primer.

The change in displacement would be almost imperceptible.

Thanks, Ya I can see that but I thought I would ask . the overall plane of the boat is greater but the weight remains much the same.
